Peter Schiff was drafted into running for U.S. Senate by supporters of republican Ron Paul, for whom Schiff was an economic advisor.

Initially amused by the notion of running for the U.S. Senate, Mr. Schiff challenged his supporters to express their support through contributions to his exploratory committee. Raising over one million dollars in Q3 of 2009, Peter decided it was enough to announce his candidacy.
He announced his candidacy on September 17, 2009 and faces several candidates to win the GOP nomination for the Connecticut senate race.
